Thoughts and Memories from Yonah's FriendsWhat is a slave? A slave is someone who has nothing to live for. It is someone who can’t think of anything more then the work before him. What is real to you? The movies you watch? The money you make? Is it the career you’re working towards? Who says we don’t have that same slave mentality? Moshe was an average man raised as an Egyptian prince. He ran away from his own people and everything he knew. It took him 60 years to find his true potential and he acted on it. Leaving the comforts of home and putting himself in danger, he returns to his people to do what he knew was right! When hopelessness filled the hearts of the Jewish people he had hope in redeeming Am Israel. Last month on Thanksgiving Day I went to the Levaya of Yonah Goldman. Yonah, like Moshe Rabenu left the comforts of home and made Aliyah. He was a man who had such a massive amount of hope; he truly believed in the redemption of Am Israel and he did something about it! Even though we lost him at the ripe age of 24, he lived a life not of a slave but of a leader. I hope that just as in his life he brought so much to everyone around him that in his death each of us could acquire that same hope and truth to makeup for even a sliver of our loss. D. Prisament |
